Preheat oven to 275 F 140 C Gas Mark 1
Add half the oil to the pan. Brown the beef until rich dark brown on all sides. Set aside
Peel and chop the onion and garlic and add to the pan and soften.
Return the meat to the pan. Add the flour and stir to soak up the juice
Add the red wine slowly stirring all the time
Add the herbs and transfer to a casserole dish
Chop the bacon and mushrooms. Add the rest of the oil to the pan and cook gently.
Add into the casserole dish
Cook for three hours.
