Recently I was sent some Tyrrell’s popcorn to taste via their taste test program. I received three bags, Sweet and salty popcorn, Lightly Sea Salted popcorn and Sour Cream and Jalapeno Chilli popcorn and couldn’t wait to try. My son was also keen to taste so I had to put them in a cupboard out of reach or it may have disappeared!
The bags are a nice size, 23g. This is an ideal size for a snack shared between two people, or if you are feeling greedy, demolishing on your own while watching a movie. It is also a nice size for packing as part of a lunch. Each 23g bag only contains 90 calories so it is a healthy alternative to crisps. All Tyrrell’s popcorn is GM free, suitable for vegans, Gluten free and made in England.
Sweet and Salty Popcorn
I have to say I love the theme that is shown on the pictures on the popcorn bags, which is English Eccentrics. Each bag has a different colour and picture. For some reason this one makes me think of Jeeves and Wooster. The popcorn was lovely and crisp. It had a sweet flavour when you first bite into it with a hint of salt. It is really nice and fluffy, an ideal movie watching popcorn.
Lightly Sea Salted Popcorn
This has an appropriate blue bag and a picture of bathers in the sea to set the tone for the popcorn. This is a lovely popcorn with a slight hint of salt that brings out the crispy lightness of the popcorn. It is not too salty, you do not need to rush out and drink loads after eating it. A really nice popcorn. My sons verdict was this is lovely.
Sour Cream and Jalapeno Chilli Popcorn
I love the picture on this bag because it sums up my son’s reaction when he tasted this. His face looked a little bit like that and he mentioned that it was very spicy. Having said that he is not a lover of spicy food. I found this had a lovely cheesy tang and a spicy aftertaste. It is not too overpowering but you do need a drink with this popcorn. It is an interesting flavour which makes a nice change from the normal plain sweet and salted varieties of popcorn.
