Snapfish – Create personalised photo books and gifts.

November 5, 2011

Recently I was offered the chance to review Snapfish which is an online service where you upload photos from your digital camera and you can then use the photos to create prints or personalised photo books, cards, calendars and other gifts. In previous years you had to mess around with film and visit the photo printing shop to be able to see how your photos had turned out.  You may well have found lots of photos of feet and other odd things when your roll was finally developed.

Luckily things have changed and now with digital photos you get to see them before you have  to print them. Photo mistakes can be easily removed and you can edit photos  so they look their best. It is a shame not to display them in some way and Snapfish offers you the perfect way to do this.

There is a lot of choice on the site, you can have your photos made into photo books, calendars, mugs, posters and greeting cards among others. Some of these things are a great ideas for gifts, I imagine a lot of Grandparents would love to receive a personalised calendar featuring photos of their grandchildren for example.

Getting started

Before you can create a photo book or other work of art you need to upload your photos onto the site. This is reasonably easy to do, you just log-in and click on the upload button and it will upload the photos you select for you. Its a good idea to go though your photos before hand, select the ones you really like, edit them and place them all into one folder. You can then upload in one go rather than sitting looking at the upload page, faffing and editing as you go which I did. It’s a good idea to load more than you want so you can experiment and see how it looks as you go along. You can edit photos to some extent on Snapfish but again it is better to do this all beforehand.  As with any photo upload it does take a little while.

I decided to look at two different products from the extensive range available on the site so I ordered a photo book and a calendar.

Photo Book

There a range of different sizes from 7″ x 5″ to 12″ x 12″ and you can choose from soft cover or hard cover. They are either in book format or flip book format with a spiral binding. I choose the 11″ x 8″ hard cover book and decided to fill it with pictures from my summer holidays.

You can choose the style and colour of the photo book and there are a lot of different styles to choose from.  You also get to choose a number of different background for the inside of the book, I choose this one which is a map of the world and sets the photos off nicely.

You can choose plain coloured backgrounds as well and you can try different ones until you find the one you really like. You can add the photos manually or use the autofill option which adds them for you. I went for  auto filland as you can see it worked well. Some pages have two photos, some have three and it looks really nice. You can add text to each page or under each photo as well if you wish. It is really easy to move the photos around if you don’t like the order they are in and you end up with a lovely book of memories.

The photo books vary in price depending on the size you get but they start at £5.99 and go up to £39.99.

As it is nearly the end of the year I also decided to make a photo calendar. Again I think these would make a lovely gift for Christmas as everyone can always use a calendar. Again there are a range of styles and shapes you can choose from. I decided to go for the kitchen calendar as it fits on my wall best.

You choose a picture for the outside of the calendar and one for each month. Again you can choose a range of different styles and colours for the background of the calendar depending on what you fancy. I used the Auto fill option again, but it is easy to add the photos you need and the finished product looks excellent. I will look forward to using this next year.

The calendars start at £9.99 and go up to £19.99.

I received delivery 5 days after my order which was really good. I was kept informed every step of the way with emails telling me that my order had been received and was being dispatched so I knew what was going on.  The products arrived in cardboard packets so they travelled safely though the post. The whole service was excellent and I would definitely use it again.
