I was wandering around the supermarket the other day doing my shopping when I happened to notice that Schwartz are now doing a range of Slow Cooker Recipe Mixes. If you read my blog on a regular basis you know that I love my slow cooker, there is nothing better than coming home after a day at work and finding the dinner ready for you. I decided to give them a try and picked up the Chicken Curry. They also do Beef and Tomato Casserole, Chicken in Red Wine and Sausage and Bean Casserole. The back of the packet comes with a recipe which is really easy to follow. You need chicken, potatoes, onions, a red pepper and some spinach. This is all added into the slow cooker with a tin of tomatoes and the recipe mix, stirred and left to work its magic. These two pictures show it before it was cooked:
In the first picture you can see the contents of the Slow Cooker Recipe mix on the top, its a mixture of herbs and spices that is rather yellow in colour. The second picture shows what it was like when it was all mixed up. It needed to be cooked for four hours on high or eight hours on low. I choose to leave it for eight hours. This is the end result:
The spinach should be stirred though at the last minute but I left that step out as I did not have any. I have to say it was very nice. I am not a great curry lover, however my husband is. This was a really nice curry and it was not really hot spicy and overpowering, it was just right. The empty plates at the end of the meal were testament to that. I did find that end result was a little watery but I suspect my husband actually added some water to the slow cooker while I was out, which would explain that. I will definitely be trying this again and some of the other recipes in the range.
RRP: £0.99 a pack which will serve four people.
