Why not try these two quick and easy Latin American snacks for lunch or a light supper. The spicy flavours bring the taste of Latin America to the plate.

Latin America is a group of countries in South America where they speak French, Spanish and Portuguese. As well as taking in South America it includes the Caribbean, Cuba and Mexico. This results in a diverse cuisine. Spices flavour the food giving it a distinctive taste. Each country has their own particular blend of spices which are unique to the regions. Think Churrasco, Tamales and Empanadas or the sweeter Churros to get an idea of what to expect.

Two quick and easy Latin American Snacks

Do you ever want to experiment with recipes from different countries? Recently I have been making some Latin American style food. Argentinian Barbacoa Steak Sandwich

Argentinian Barbacoa Steak Sandwich

When you are hungry what could be nicer than a steak sandwich? Argentina is famous for beef and the Argentina barbacoa involves cooking a whole cow slowly over and open fire. This steak sandwich uses Argentinian Barbacoa Steak rub to give a smoky flavour to the meat, as if it has been cooking over the fire. Use thin cut steaks so that the sandwich is ready fast. Just rub the spice into the outside of the steak and flash fry for a couple of minutes on each side. Serve the steak in lightly toasted ciabatta bread with a thin spread of mayonnaise and some shredded lettuce and cucumber.

To really complement the flavour add some caramelized onions and red peppers along with the steak. These are really simple to make. Fry the onions and red pepper gently in a pan until they soften. Add a spoonful of red wine vinegar and brown sugar and cook until the liquid disappears. The sweet flavour really complements the smoky taste of the steak. I also threw in half a tin of sweetcorn as I had one that was open. The sandwich is really tasty and I have had requests to make it again.

Argentinian Barbacoa Steak Sandwich

A delicious and tasty steak sandwich with caramelised onions.


  • 1 thin steak
  • ciabatta bread
  • 1 onion
  • ½ red pepper
  • mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp red wine vinegar
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • shredded lettuce
  • shredded cucumber
  • Argentinian Barbacoa Steak Rub


  1. Rub the Argentinian Barbacoa Steak Rub into both sides of the steak
  2. Chop the onions and red pepper into small pieces
  3. Gently fry the onion and pepper in some oil until soft
  4. Add the sugar and red wine vinegar and cook gently until the liquid reduces
  5. Set the onions aside and gently fry the steak on both sides
  6. Toast the ciabatta bread on both sides and spread mayonnaise on one side of each slice
  7. Shred the lettuce and cucumber and add to the bread
  8. Add the steak and onions to the bread and make into a sandwich

Caribbean Pineapple & Chilli Burrito

Caribbean Pineapple & Chilli Burrito

This Caribbean Pineapple and Chilli brings the fruity and spicy flavours of the Caribbean into one filling sandwich. Using a burrito brings a twist of the Mexican to simple Caribbean street food. The burrito is really easy to make, just cook some chicken, onions and mushrooms in a pan. When they are ready add the Caribbean Pineapple & Chilli Sticky Sauce. Meanwhile heat the Arroz Coconut and chilli rice in a microwave. Put the chicken mixture and rice into a flat bread and roll up. If you wish you can add a little salad as well.

Pineapple and chilli burrito

A filling burrito packed full of flavour


  • 1 pack Caribbean Pineapple & Chilli Sticky Sauce
  •  pack Arroz Coconut and chilli rice.
  • 1 onion
  • 3 mushrooms
  • 2 chicken breasts
  • ½ red pepper
  • Fajita wraps


  1. Peel and chop the onions, chop the red pepper and mushrooms
  2. Chop the chicken into small pieces
  3. Heat some oil in a pan and fry the onion, pepper and mushrooms
  4. Add the diced chicken and cook until cooked though
  5. Add the sauce and stir
  6. Make the rice in the microwave
  7. Add the chicken mixture and rice into the wraps
  8. Add salad if desired.

    It looks like a lovely new range. I haven’t tried any of the new products yet. Both meals are tasty, though for me the burrito is the winner, such fab flavours.
