Make Your Home Feel Light & Spacious Again

October 1, 2018

If your home is lacking light and space, you and your family probably aren’t getting the most out of it, and that means it’s time for some changes. There are lots of ways to change how your rooms function, how big they feel and how much light is let into them. If you’re stuck for ideas though, we’ve got some that will help you out a lot. Read on now and put what you learn into practice.

Rearrange the Furniture

Changing around the furniture and seeing how the space looks after you’ve done that is an important step to take. If the furniture is not laid out properly and carefully in the room, the space won’t be used in a particularly efficient manner, and that would be a real shame. Try not to block any windows because this will only limit the natural light in the home.

Find Clever Hidden Storage Solutions

If you have stuff thrown all over your floor, it’s obviously not going to make the place feel very spacious. That’s why you need clever storage solutions. They’ll allow you to keep the space tidy and stop your stuff taking up value space in the room because that can make it feel cluttered and cramped when it really doesn’t need to feel that way at all.

Fit Some New Windows

It might be the case that your old windows simply aren’t good enough any longer. If they’re old, poorly insulated and dirty beyond repair, new windows could really help you to change things. You could even opt to have some bigger windows fitted if you think that not enough light be being allowed into the space at present. It’s an investment worth making in your home if you’re in need of more natural light.

Change the Window Dressings

The window dressings will also make a difference in your home because if they’re too thick and bulky, they will block natural light and make the space feel darker than it really is. If this problem sounds familiar to you, you can simply change the window dressings and replace them with something better and slimmer. That way, you won’t block out light and make the room too dark.

Reflect the Light

As well as letting more natural light into your home, there are also things you can do when it’s in there. One option is to reflect light around the home. This is done by adding mirrors in strategic locations that can then help you to fill the room with more natural light, reaching those corners that you weren’t able to reach before. It’s definitely worth trying out if you haven’t already done so.

When your home is lacking light and the space you need, it can start to feel a little depressing. No one really wants to spend time in rooms that are overcrowded and dingy. So be sure to make some of these changes if you want to add a light and spacious feel to your home.

Hidden storage is so important, I agree. Right now I’m thinking of adding a bit more storage for books. It will not be hidden, but is still important for decluttering.
