Light Switch Timer Review

November 4, 2013

Have you noticed now the clocks have moved back the nights are getting much darker earlier. I often find I am coming home in the dark and the house looks gloomy and unoccupied. It is much nicer to come home and find a light on, you can see what you are doing. It also makes the house is less of a target for burglars.

This week I have been trying out a new product, The Light Switch Timer,  which is a clever programmable light switch. It is easily installed over your light switch and allows you to program when your lights go on and off. I have looked at these products before and most of them have required a lot of fiddly wiring to install so I have never bothered. This one was featured on the Gadget Show so you may have seen it there.

The Light Switch Timer comes in two sections which fit together and go over the light switch. You can use it on single, double and triple switches which gives you a range of lighting options. It will also work with all light bulb types.

If you look at the back you can see you need two AA batteries to get it running. These are easily installed and then the Light Switch Timer can be programmed. You can set it to have different on and off times for each day. If you are in the house you can also override these programmed settings and use it as a normal switch by using the on off buttons.
Back of Light Switch Timer
To install the Light Switch Timer I had to loosen the two screws on the light switch very slightly. It is recommended you turn off the electricity before doing this as a safety precaution. You do not have to take the switch off the wall, the base unit slips easily down behind the switch and then the screws are tightened to hold the unit in place.
Installing light switch timer
After installing the batteries the second part of the unit neatly slots into place. Programming it is simple, I didn’t even need to look at the instructions. The instructions are really clear if you need it.

I really like this light switch timer, it is so simple to install and use and does the job perfectly. Currently it is available at the special launch price of £27.99. If you are quick and buy before the 18th November you can buy two and save 10% and get free postage. You just need to use the code Lights-on on the website.

Disclosure: I was sent a light switch timer in order to write and honest review. I was not told what to write and my opinions are my own.
