Immortalised at St James’ Park

December 4, 2014

St James’ Park is the home of Newcastle United. If you live in Newcastle it is obligatory to support Newcastle, Geordies are the most passionate football fans in the country. They will follow Newcastle to the ends of the earth and often do. Newcastle United are a team that seem to keep the fans on a roller coaster ride, you never know how they are going to play until they do. Every season has it’s highs and lows and we are always hoping we are going to take a cup home.

A little while ago fans were asked to send in photos of themselves, the idea being that a large mural would be placed outside St James’ park featuring these photos as a tribute to Newcastle supporters. I sent in photos of my husband and son.  I thought no more about it until I had an email to tell me that both of their photos had been chosen to go onto the mural. We went down to have a look.

Mural at St James ParkThe mural contains 2000 fan photos and it is on display at the Gallowgate end of St James’. The mural is captioned,” St James’ Park  – Home of the Toon Army.” and the Newcastle United logo is in the centre. The logo is made up of the photos as well.

Mural at St James parkWe had great fun searching the entire length of the mural trying to find the photos. It was hard to see the ones at the top. We walked from side to side looking up and down. Eventually I found my husband’s photo.

St James ParkMy son’s photo was much harder to find, we scanned the length of the mural several times and were beginning to think we would not find it, until I spotted it. It was quite high up so it was hard to get a photo.

Mural at St James ParkIt is great that both of their photos are immortalised at St James Park and will be there for many years to come.
