Eat Seasonal – August
Eat Seasonal August is a list of the produce in season this month. By eating seasonally we get the best flavours in our food and spend less money.
August is a hot Summer month that brings a bounty of fruit and vegetables. Now is the time to enjoy eating al fresco. Fire up the barbecue or pack a picnic and enjoy the best food the season has to offer.
Eat Seasonal: August
This month heat loving fruit and vegetables take a starting role. Enjoy aubergines, courgettes and tomatoes while they are in season. Tomatoes have more flavour when home grown. Summer berries are in season, look for raspberries, redcurrants and blackberries. These are perfect for whipping up delicious and simple desserts. Make the most of scallops by cooking them on the barbecue along with seabass and home made burgers. Serve with a simple salad.
To help you find out what food is in season this month I have a simple chart that contains this information. You can download the pdf for August seasonal food to print out and stick to your fridge.

Peach Melba Freakshakes
The kids are off school so why not get them to help make these delicious peach melba freakshakes? They will be more than happy to decorate the top with sweets and peaches. The final reward is drinking the shake afterwards. It will keep them happy for a little while.
Raspberry Bars
Every year I have a glut of raspberries. They are taking over my garden. I am always looking for recipes that use them up. These raspberry crumble bars are delicious as well as being really easy to make. The raspberries form a jammy layer on the top of the crumble base which is a delight to eat.
Raspberry and almond cake
Raspberry and almond cake is the perfect tea time treat. The raspberries sink into the sponge layer making a delicious fruity surprise. This is offset with the crunch from the almonds on the top. Eat on a summer day outside with a cup of tea for sheer bliss.
Peach and Raspberry Cobbler
A delicious mix of peaches and raspberries under a scone like topping, this dessert is sure to be a crowd pleaser. The taste of summer is in every bite. It is quite easy to make and worth taking the time to do so.
Summer Fish Pie
This light and creamy fish pie contains seasonal fish in a white wine and cream sauce. Just add peas into the mix for a summer twist and top with spring onions in the potato. This is a dish you will be sure to come back to when you want an easy meal. It can be made ahead and frozen for later.
Lemon and Cumin Lamb Fajitas
These lemon and cumin lamb fajitas mix summer vegetables like mangetout with lamb in a lightly spiced dish. Serve in fajita wraps for a quick and easy meal. To make it more filling add some fruity spicy rice into the wrap with the lamb mixture.
Chicken with apricots and tamarind on herby rice
For a delicate fruity flavour chicken with apricots and tamarind on herby rice is perfect. This makes a lovely light lunch or evening meal. Nice on its own or served with salad for a bigger meal.

August is great for berries and fruit. Blackberries are starting to ripen speedily. We saw today a couple with huge bags picking blackberries in the fields. Not sure why they need that many berries, they surely will get squashed under their own weight.
Lots of beautiful recipes, Alison! That milkshake is super tempting.

Thanks Galina. We are just starting to get ripe blackberries, they always seem to take longer to ripen round here. Must get out and pick some
