Blue Dragon Chinese Special Fried Rice Bake

January 9, 2013

Just after Christmas and the New Year I was looking for ways to use my left over meat. We had four bird roast for New Years Eve and it was lovely but I had a little bit left over. I didn’t want to waste it and I was pleased to find this jar of Blue Dragon Chinese Special Fried Rice Bake in my cupboard.

Blue dragon rice bake

It is described as a Chinese style sauce for rice with soy and ginger. I love special fried rice and it seemed a quick and simple meal. It is also cooked in the oven which makes it very easy. The jar suggested you add left over cooked meat, shrimps, peas and beaten egg to it so it sounded like a good way to use up my leftover bird.

The first thing you do is add a couple of spoons of oil to the casserole dish and then cover the rice in it. Once you have done that you add the sauce and a jar of water and leave it in the oven for 30 minutes to cook.

After 30 minutes you take it out of the oven and add the cooked meat, peas and beaten egg to the dish then put it back in the oven for another 10 minutes. I used my left over four bird roast, some red peppers and the egg. I found I had to leave it a bit longer than ten minutes for the egg to set properly but that was not really an issue.

This was the finished dish:

It did look a little bit brown but it actually tasted really nice. You could taste the undercurrents of ginger in the sauce which added a nice flavour to the meal. For a quick and tasty way to use up leftovers this is great. The sauce is also suitable for vegetarians and vegans, if you don’t add meat to it. My son also enjoyed it and his plate was left clean. I would definitely get this again.

I havent seen this before, a rice bake, briliant idea, may have to try it but not very keen on ginger, is it only a subtle taste??

  2. You could tell it was there but it was not overpowering

Ive used these jars twice no nd although the dish was enjoyable both times the rice was not cooked. Am I doing something wrong? Am I supposed to boil the rice first? Could I leave it in for longer or should I put more water in?

  4. I would try adding leaving it a little bit longer. You can easily taste to see when its done
