Finding New Things
I have lived in Newcastle for many years, I came here as a student and ended up staying. I think I know the city well but every so often something will surprise me. The other day I was driving to work. To get there I have to cross the city and tend to choose routes that will avoid traffic. At the moment there are a lot of road works going on outside Central Station, part of their plan to upgrade the station and the area. To avoid this I go into a small tunnel made of bricks which is the start of Forth Street. This runs behind Central Station and the traffic flows easily along here. It is also of interest because you can see part of the old city wall along here. There was also a crazy sculpture made of shopping trolleys, but when I went past today this has been moved.
The tunnel is not long but it looks old and has obviously been there for some time. Normally I don’t pay much attention when I go though the tunnel but today I actually noticed the bricks.
A whole section of them were labelled “Just a brick in the wall”. It is amazing what you find when you look and it made me smile. I would love to know some of the history behind these bricks, how long have they been there, who thought up the idea, is it anything to do with Pink Floyd? The questions are endless but now I know it is there I will smile every time I go though the tunnel.
Talking about finding new things, today when I was out walking the dog I actually saw a fox. We were just walking along the path when I saw it emerge from the long grass at the side of the stream. It stood there a moment then went back into the grass. I wish I had had my camera with me. I decided to go the other way as I didn’t want the fox to attack the dog, or the dog to attack the fox but I have never seen one in the area before. It was a surreal moment to start the day.
I am joining in with the Alphabet Photography Project over on PODCast, do pop over and see what everyone else has found for F.
