Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

My dog, Eddie is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. He is a lovely natured dog, happy and easy to please with an ever wagging tail. He is very affectionate and often follows me around the house like a shadow, always interested in what I am doing. There is nothing he loves more than a cuddle, and will lie on my lap for ages. He also loves long walks in the country, exploring the woods and discovering new things. He is a clever dog but lacks common sense, if he sees another dog he wants to play and this tendency caused me to almost lose him once, a scary moment.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are not the same as King Charles Spaniels, they are slightly bigger and have a more pointy nose. King Charles Spaniels were common as pets in court and King Charles II was known for having several of them. He did not like being parted from them and apparently made a law that a King Charles Spaniel should be allowed in any public place, including the Houses of Parliament. I am not sure how they would react if you tried to bring one in with you today, I suspect it would not be allowed. They did have a practical purpose, as lapdogs they would sit on ladies laps in cold carriages and keep them warm. This would also have come in handy in cold castles. Fleas would also be attracted to the dog rather than the person, which would help keep the plague away.

I love having a dog, his happy nature always makes me smile. He is a great excuse to get out of the house and explore the area. We have found so many new things in our local area due to taking him out. My son loves him and will spend lots of time playing with him and throwing a ball for him. He is a great addition to our family.

What a cutie! I always had a dog growing up but as an adult I lack the patience (and space) for one. It’s a shame the kids are missing out but I just don’t think I’d have the time to give one the attention it would require. Three kids are hard enough! #alphabetphoto

Gosh I remember that post when you nearly lost him, just awful. What a great dog Eddie is, he looks like lots of fun. They have a wonderful temperament too. Great post and I love the photos, just gorgeous. Thank you for sharing and joining in #alphabetphoto

  3. Aww he’s a little cutie! I love dogs, I definitely think they are a great addition to the family and great for encouraging an active lifestyle! I’m just trying to convince my hubby of this, haha!

He is beautiful! I’ve come across a few of this breed and not one has had a bad nature. If I had to pick something other than a German Shepheard, I think I would be tempted by one of these.

What a cute, nice and lovely dog. It’s really something wonderful to be able to have a dog. I simply can’t leave a dog 10 hours alone.
