I first encountered Orangina as a child when we were on holiday in France. It brings back memories of sitting in street cafes, watching people play boules outside and sipping Orangina from the bottle using a straw. I was always taken by the unique shape of the bottle and the little bits of orange pulp that you could see inside. It also has a very gentle fizz which makes it lovely to drink cold on a hot day. Bear in mind you need to shake it gently before you drink it in order to distribute the orange pulp evenly though the drink.
Each bottle of Orangina contains 12% citrus juice, strangely it is a blend of orange, mandarin, grapefruit and lemon which create its distinctive taste. I always thought it was just orange but I was wrong. The great thing is that it has no added colour and no artificial sweeteners unlike a lot of other fizzy drinks. I love the gentle orangey taste and find it really refreshing.
I was very interested to learn that Orangina have just launched a new Tropical flavour and wondered if this would be as nice as the original. Orangina say that it brings you all the great Orangina flavour with a delightful touch of the tropical exotic. It still contains 12% citrus juice. is lightly sparkling and has no artifical colours and no artifical sweetners. It is still blended from oranges, lemon, mandarin and grapefruit but it also has a sweet tropical twist.
I was intrigued to try Orangina Tropical and see if it would be as nice as it sounded. I poured myself a glass and took a sip. I have to say that it is gorgeous. It has a very orangey taste with a hint of something else tropical in the background. It is not too sweet and the tropical taste is not overpowering, it is just right. It tastes as though it has just been taken from the fruit and poured into the glass. One sip was just not enough, the rest of the bottle disappeared very quickly afterwards. I would have loved to drink this all myself but I thought I had to let my son have some and give his opinion. He insisted that he could not drink it until he had shaken it and then gave it a try. His verdict was that it was delicious and again the contents of the bottle did not hang around long.Orangina Tropical is a lovely refreshing summer drink, well worth a try.

Orangina also sent me some cocktail recipes which I will share with you. I have not tried these yet but would love to know how they turn out if you give them a go.
