Win a Playstation and Bioshock Infiinite With MusicMagpie

MusicMagpie recently contacted me to let me know about a competition they have running at the moment where you have a chance to win a top of the range 500GB PlayStation 3 along with a copy of BioShock Infinite.

photo MusicMagpie_zps2df36c35.jpgI was in two minds about telling you all about it because I have been waiting expectantly for Bioshock Infinite to come out having really enjoyed the first two games. From all accounts it is even better than the first two. If you are not aware of the games the Bioshock series are survival horror games. The first two are set in the underwater city of Rapture, a hauntingly beautiful backdrop with sad and sinister overtones. Built to be a version of Utopia, things went wrong when Adam was discovered allowing people go gain new abilities by genetic modification. The player enters the aftermath of a war within the city. Bioshock Infinite is meant to be set in the past in a floating city in the sky and I am really looking forward to playing it.

If you want a chance to win head over to Music Magpie and enter the competition. It ends on the 19th May. Good luck!

Disclosure: By posting this I am entered into a blogger competition to win a copy of Bioshock Infinite and I have my fingers firmly crossed!

Join The Easter Egg Hunt

The eagle eyed among you might have spotted my blog is now sporting an Easter Egg in the sidebar and you might be wondering why. Park Resorts are running a competition  where you have a chance to win a holiday for 6 people for a week. It is an online Easter Egg hunt, they have hidden Easter Eggs on a number of different blogs. All you need to do is to follow the clues and search online to find them. They look like this but they all have different words on them

You can find the information about the competition here. It runs until the 5th April and new clues will be added regularly. The more eggs you find the more chances you have of winning so why not go and have a search?

An Outfit For Mothers Day

On Sunday it will be Mothers Day, a chance to show your mum how much she means to you. I usually get a lovely home made card from my son which I treasure, although now he is at secondary school this may not happen.

When I spotted a challenge to design an outfit for my mum, using clothes from Next I decided to have a go. This is the outfit I decided on, although it was difficult as they had so many nice things.

Mothers Day Look

I loved the Bird Print Waterfall Top when I saw it, it is so delicate and feminine and those birds are really spring like. It looks elegant as well and would look perfect on a Sunday lunch out. I teamed it with a simple plain skirt which is tailored so it looks smart.

I kept the accessories simple, the nude three compartment bag was smart but it looked roomy enough for my mum to add all her bits and pieces into. The nude patent shoes matched the bag perfectly as did the nude jewel bracelet.
To finish the look I chose the Cream Geo Lace Jacket as I think it looked unique and special, just like my mum. I love this outfit and I hope my mum will love it as well. What do you think?

What’s In Your Pocket?

These days most people are having to be very careful with money. With the prices of energy, petrol and food soaring and take home pay staying the same most households have to account for every extra penny. It is rare to have any extra pennies for treats and we are often on the lookout for ways to make extra cash.

Imagine that one day you find a £20 note that you didn’t know you had. It could be lurking in your coat pocket when you shoved it in while you were rushing about one day. Maybe you find it in the bottom of your handbag where it escaped from your purse. Possibly you find it down the back of the sofa, the back of the sofa does seem to collect cash. It is £20, it is all yours to spend. No one knows you have it, you can treat yourself. How does it feel?

For me the £20 is now a list of possibilities. I can spend my time planning how I am going to spend it which is half of the fun. Lots of ideas run though my mind. I could have an adventure, I could take a bus to a random destination and find out what was there. I have done this before and it is fun but there is always the chance you end up in the middle of a farmers field. I could go out for the day, to somewhere like Beamish Museum or Marsden Grotto which is a pub set into a cliff. At this time of year though the weather is not the best so it is not the best idea.

In the end I decide I am going to treat myself to an exercise DVD. That might sound as if it is not much of a treat but I really want to get fit and with the cold weather I have not been getting out running the way I would normally. I have been hearing great things about Jillian Micheal’s 30 day Shred.

photo 30dayshred__zpsba70a81f.jpgIt sounds like it really pushes you which is what I need to stop being lazy and the benefit of fitness can’t be measured. At the moment it is only £5.09 so I can also treat myself to something else.

If I am going to do this DVD I suspect I will need some serious pampering afterwards and for a gorgeous pampering treat I always choose Lush. Now what can be more relaxing that a lovely warm bath filled with bath bombs or bubble bath?

photo 6032-Relax-take-a-bath-open-640-x-587_zps0083a5c2.jpgThis Lush Relax Take a Bath box is the ultimate relaxing pampering treat for me and it is not something I would normally treat myself too. This box is £12.50 so I will still have change from my £20. In fact enough change to buy myself a magazine and a bar of chocolate.

Have you ever found money unexpectedly? What did you do with it?

The White Company Christmas Bedroom Competition

When I saw that Fresh Design Blog was running a blogger competition where you had to design a festive bedroom using The White Company’s bedroom range I decided I had to give it a go. I must admit I had never really thought about creating a bedroom for the festive season but I really liked the idea of creating an oasis of calm that I could retire to in the midst of all the festive fun. I also wanted to create something snug and warming for the cold winter nights.

Festive Bedroom using choices from The White Company

My choices are shown in the mural above. I started with the bed and for a good nights sleep you can’t beat crisp cotton sheets. I love this crisp white Egyptian Cotton Bedlinen which looks like snow. For a cosy feel and for snuggling up on cold winter nights I added a Luxury Faux Fur Throw and Cushions. The fur looks really soft and I would love to cosy up in this and read a book.

A bedroom needs somewhere where you can sit to comb your hair and I love this Carlton Dressing Table. It’s sleek white lines add a sense of calm to the bedroom and I think it would look fabulous with a pile of presents underneath, ready for distributing on Christmas morning. I added a touch of mood lighting with this Antique Cut Glass Table Lamp which I think looks exotic and mysterious. For some reason when I look at it I think of Aladdin and his lamp and can almost imagine a flying carpet sweeping into the room to take me off on a mysterious adventure.
To add the final touches to my bedroom I added an Orange Grove Signature Candle as I think oranges are a lovely uplifting scent and that all important Alarm Clock. What else will wake you up early before the kids on Christmas morning!

So what do you think of my design choices?
