You may not believe it, looking at the weather outside, but it is actually Spring. At this time of year my thoughts turn to Spring cleaning and getting the house looking nice and fresh for the Summer. It is a great time to pull out furniture and clean those nooks and crannies that are usually ignored. It is hard work but once it is done you can really see the difference.
Before I even start Spring Cleaning I need to do some Spring decluttering. I am a great one for hoarding and have lots of stuff stashed about the house that I should get rid of. The easiest way to do this is to take one room at a time. I started with my bedroom and took in some plastic bags. One bag was for rubbish, it is amazing how much rubbish you can find. The other bag was for sorting old clothes and other things out that could be used by others. This stuff would go the the charity shop or to a car boot sale.
At this point you do need to be ruthless. I have clothes in my wardrobe that I have not worn for ages for various reasons. Some of them no longer fit because I lost weight. Some of them I have had for years and am keeping them for that occasion where I will need them. I took the view that if I had not worn it for two years then I was not likely to wear it again and out it went. I can now see exactly what clothes I have and have an excuse for getting some more.
The other thing I tend to hoard is shoes, I have loads of them and some of them are really battered and worn. They all seem to have piled up in the bottom of the wardrobe as if it is a shoe breeding ground. It makes it really difficult to see what I have. Once I got rid of the ones I didn’t want I decided to have a look and see if I could find some storage solutions for my shoes.
I had a look on the John Lewis website and came across this translucent hanging shoe tidy.
At £10 it is affordable and I would be able to see my shoe collection at a glance when I looked in the wardrobe. Definitely better than having them in piles all over the wardrobe floor. I also found this shoe rack which I thought I could put in the hall.
That way my son might put his shoes on it when he comes in and we would avoid the mad shoe hunt in the mornings just before school. He always takes them off with no idea where he has put them the next day. I dread to think how much of my time is spent searching for shoes.
While I was hunting I also came across this lovely pink shopper which is so bright and cheerful.
I am glad to say my bedroom is looking a little tidier so now I just need to get started cleaning it and then do the rest of the house. Have you started your spring cleaning yet?
