The days are definitely getting colder and darker, I know when I get up in the morning it is decidedly chilly. On dark cold days there is nothing better than a warming breakfast to start the day and porridge fits the bill. It is warming and filling allowing you to keep going till lunchtime. Special K porridge is now available. It is aimed at slimmers and uses a special three grain recipe making it lower in fat and high in fibre. The grains used are oats, barley and rye.
I was recently sent some Special K Porridge to try. It comes in three flavours, Original, Red Berries and Almond & Honey. It uses real fruit in the Red Berries variety and real nuts in the Almond & Honey flavour. Inside the box you get individual packets of porridge, ideal for one serving. The idea is you add milk and microwave for a couple of minutes and your breakfast is ready.
After you open the sachet and put the porridge in the bowl you can pour milk up to the line on the sachet to get the exact amount required. I found this a bit fiddly as the packet is rather flexible. It was much easier to use a measuring jug and add 140ml of milk to the porridge.
The porridge is rather tasty. I tried the Red Berries first and the pieces of fruit were lovely. The Almond & Honey is gorgeous as well, you can really taste the nuts. I think this one ended up being my favourite. The portion was a little smaller than I expected but it did keep me full till lunchtime. I will definitely be keeping some of these in, a nice tasty quick breakfast.
You can find Special K Porridge in most supermarkets. The RRP is £1.99 and you get seven sachets in the Original box and six sachets in the Red Berries and Almond & Honey varieties. You can also get individual pots RRP 99p. You will find more information on the Special K website: www.myspecialk.co.uk
Disclosure: I was sent some Special K Porridge in return for an honest review. I was not told what to write and my opinions are my own.
