Valentines Day is approaching and hopefully you are being taken out somewhere nice. Years ago I was taken on a Valentine’s Date by my boyfriend of the time. We had just started dating and he decided he would take me to a Valentine’s party which was being thrown by some of this friends. He told me that it was going to be a toga party and we should all dress in Roman dress.

It did sound fun so I spent time preparing my outfit. Have you ever tried to create a toga with a sheet? It is quite a challenge to get it to drape correctly without revealing parts that should not be on view to the public. After some effort I managed to create quite a Romanesque look with a hair style to match. I was quite pleased with my effort until we got there. You guessed it, it was not a toga party at all. Everyone else was dressed in their party best and there was me dressed in a sheet. Have you ever wished the floor would swallow you up? Needless to say that boyfriend did not last long!

So what would I wear for that special night out, the sophisticated meal I am hoping to get treated to? This is my selection:

I love that dress, it is a fantastic and striking colour and I love the detailing. It is a little bit different from most evening dresses while looking smart. I kept the accessories simple and black so as not to take away from the dress. I think the earrings and bag and shoes go together perfectly and add a touch of vintage. For me the bracelet just lifted the outfit and finished it perfectly.
