It is January and most people’s minds are turning towards losing weight and doing more exercise. I am one of these and I was having a look for healthy snacks that I can take to work or give to my son. I then remembered I had some Yu! healthy snacks hidden away and I had not yet tried them. I am not sure how I had managed to forget I had them as snacks do not tend to last long in my house. I had two different types of snack, Yu!Bars and Yu! Jus Fruit. I decided to try the Yu! Bars first.
The Yu! Bars are described as a healthy snack made from real fruit and crunchy cereal covered in a yoghurt coating. They come in four different flavours, wild berry, cherry, apricot and strawberry. They have no artificial colours or flavours and each bar contains around 128 calories. They sounded good but would they taste nice?
Opening the packet I found a rather delicious looking yoghurt covered bar.

I could see the chunks of cereal though the yoghurt and there was a lovely fruity smell as well. Opening the bar I was surprised to see that the fruit was actually oozing out of the bar. I was expecting more of a cereal type bar with bits of fruit in it so this was unexpected. I have to say it was rather nice though

The bar itself was lovely, chewy and gooey and you could taste the yoghurt and the fruit. It was an ideal snack when you fancy something a little bit sweet and are perfect for taking with you to work in order to avoid a chocolate snack. They would make a nice breakfast treat as well. My son loved his bar and was quite disappointed I didn’t have any more. The bars are RRP £1.79 for three.
Next we tried the Y! Jus Fruit which are fruit pieces which have somehow been made from 7.2 times their own weight in fruit. I am not sure how they are made, presumably the fruit is squashed down or similar.
Yu! Jus Fruit comes in small pouches which are the ideal size for carrying around with you. Currently they are available in blackberry, blueberry, cherry, strawberry and mango. Opening the packet I found they looked a little bit like small berries. These were the blueberry flavour.
Interestingly the strawberry ones were the same colour, my son was intrigued as he said that he thought strawberries were red. I said that it was because so many strawberries were squashed into the small piece that it made them look black. They had a jelly like consistency which was also unexpected. They do however taste lovely, they are bursting with fruit flavour. My son also loved these and they vanished very quickly. Each bag contains 88 calories and counts towards one of your five a day which is great. A bag is RRP 67p.
I really liked these Yu! healthy snacks. They are a perfect sweet treat that is low calorie and healthy. Even better my son likes them so I have something that I can give him to snack on that is good for him. You can find Yu!Healthy Snacks in the home baking aisle at Tesco (which is not where I would expect to find them). You can also find more information on their website http://www.yu-rules.co.uk
Disclosure: I received some Yu! Bars and Yu! Jus Fruit to try in order to do an honest review. I was not told what to write and my opinions are my own.
