Facing the Scales

It was that time of week again, Sunday weigh-in! I was hoping for a good week this week as after the previous week I had really tried to be good. On the running front things have been going well. Although I have still not increased my distance that much I am doing a longer distance daily. I have increased from 1 mile to 1.2 miles and I even managed to do the dreaded hill a couple of times this week which increases my distance to 1.56 miles. Just to prove it here is a picture from the top of the hill.

HillRunning feels a lot easier now and I definitely feel much fitter. My legs are also looking less wobbly which is a good thing and I think I am gaining more muscle. I have not been running to any sort of plan but this week Runkeeper (the app I use to track my mileage) made training plans available for free. I decided to work to the 3km one and tried a 2 mile run. It was not a success. The problem is that it had a 5 minute warm up and by the time that finished I was well into my run. It then expects you to do a mile and after that walk another 0.25 miles before running a mile. In real terms the distance is more than 2 miles.

I did notice that this week as I was running further I was starting to get a stitch. This is apparently from lactic acid build up and I am not warming up properly. I am going to have to find a way to fit a proper warm up into my routine, always hard when the dog has turned into a kangaroo desperate to get out of the door! I am pleased with my progress though, I would never have dreamt of running anywhere a few weeks ago.

On the food front I have been eating less junk food this week and also drinking less wine. I made sure there were less biscuits and chocolate in the house so I wasn’t tempted to snack. It has worked, I got on the scales this week and found I had lost a grand total of 3 pounds. I was delighted. I even tried on a pair of trousers that I have not been able to get into for ages and I managed to get into them and do them up. It’s a great feeling. I just hope I can keep it up and lose the last 8 pounds and reach my target. I should be helped in this as I just learnt I have won a months free trial of Jenny Craig food after asking a question in their blogger competition. I am looking forward to trying this out.

Why not visit my weight loss friends and see how they got on this week.

  1. That’s fabulous – go you !! Plus muscle is heavier than fat so as you’re gaining in muscle, your weight might even go up a bit, but you’ll stillbe losing inches. I love that feeling when you get into clothes you couldn’t fit into – a real sense of achievement :)
