I Need a Plan!

RosesIf you read my blog recently you will know that I have suddenly decided to take up running. It was mainly due to the fact that I had a pair of running shoes that were sitting there asking to be used. An added incentive was that I have noticed weight gradually creeping on and I wanted to stop this from happening. I have to take the dog out for a walk every day anyway so it seemed a good idea to combine that with a run.

So far I have been pleased with my progress and the fact that I am enjoying it, but at the weekend I came to the realisation that I really need a plan. Currently my plan has been run as far as I can which seemed to have been working quite well. At the weekend I managed to do 1.23 miles, a new record for me and have been doing around a mile every day. I don’t feel that I am really challenging myself though and need a goal to work towards.

When I look at training plans I get even more confused. There are 5K runs, 10 k runs and then we move to marathons and half marathons which are measured in miles. I get all confused when it comes to converting from miles to kilometres and vice versa, all I want is an aim. If anyone knows of a decent training plan please let me know, as the moment I am browsing around not really knowing what I am doing.

I also want to lose some weight and so far I have managed to lose weight without changing my eating habits that much. Currently I have lost 7lb in total. Ideally I would like to lose another 12lb so I am going to start joining in the weekly weigh in which a number of other bloggers participate in. This will give me an incentive to make more of an effort as I will have to tell you all each week how much weight I have lost. This week I lost 1 lb.

The other bloggers in the challenge are:

In case you are wondering what the picture of roses has to do with anything, I am expecting there may be thorns ahead but it will be worth it in the end.

  1. Lovely to have you join us Alison, well done on all the running and weight loss so far. Having asthma the most I can manage is a fast walk. Good luck losing the last 12 lbs and I look forward to catching up in another week. xx
