I was recently sent a range of products from Sacla to try out and one of them was this Sacla Dallaglio Pasta Sauce. This particular one is Bolgnese Barabera Red Wine but there are a number of other varieties available. These are Napoletana, Diavola, Tricolore, Italian Slow Baked Tomatoes marinated with chilli and Italian Slow Baked Tomatoes marinated with garlic.
I was slightly confused as to why Lawrence Dallaglio, a rugby player, was involved in making pasta sauce. Checking the Sacla website I found out that he and his father, Vincenzo had been looking for someone in Italy to help them make a range of their favourite family sauces. They got together with Sacla and the Dallaglio Pasta Sauces were born.
I wanted to try something a little bit different from Spaghetti Bolognese so I searched though Lawrence Dallaglio’s cookbook called My Italian Family Cookbook for ideas. I chose something called Hunters Chicken which looked lovely in the picture. The great thing about the recipe book is it tells you how to make it from scratch but also gives you the option to substitute a jar of Sacla Dallaglio Pasta sauce in instead if you wish. Both are equally easy but if you have the sauce available it is a time saver.
This was the finished result.
I think it was a little bit more watery than it was meant to be, next time I make it I will simmer it for a little longer. Having said that though it was very tasty. There is a lovely tomato flavour in the sauce which is a big plus with me. I often find that some of these sauces do not taste enough of tomato and have a slightly metallic taste which can be off putting. This was definitely not the case here. I was pleased to learn that the sauce is also low in salt which is great. I never add salt when I am cooking but a lot of pre-packed sauces have loads in which worries me. I really enjoyed this sauce and would definitely use it again. The rest of the family agreed and the plates were clean which is a good sign. I shall be looking out for the other sauces in the range.
